The Kennedys.
Very proud of this piece, "The 13 Scariest Curses EVER," I wrote for Trutv.com because I'm basically realizing my childhood dream to be Fox Mulder. Thanks for reading!

For NPR I reviewed Sarah Burns' (daughter of documentarian Ken Burns) book on the Central Park Five, the group of boys wrongfully convicted of the rape of the Central Park Jogger in 1989. Very compelling read; highly recommended for those who know little about the case.

I reviewed House of Exile, a collective biography of a group of artists and intellectuals who fled Nazi Germany during WWII, at NPR.

Meghan O'Rourke, former poetry editor of The Paris Review, has written a beautiful, brave memoir about losing her mother to cancer. I reviewed it for The Second Pass.

Post Office.
I wrote up a few new restaurants and bars for About dot com (you should check out their new homepage if you haven't seen it - very nice).

Post Office bar is a whiskey / rye / bourbon place where you must drink it straight up and nibble on their delicious snacks.

Beloved restaurant The Brooklyn Star (which had to close earlier this year due to a fire) has opened in a new location on Lormier Street. Texan-style Southern food. This place is incredible.

From the people that brought you Roberta's: Best Pizza. Now you don't have to go to Bushwick to get excellent thin crust heaven.

At The Second Pass, editor John Williams writes:  "In early February, a group called VIDA — formed in 2009 to “explore critical and cultural perceptions of writing by women” — released statistics about the gender balance, or imbalance, in literary magazines. You can see the stats here. And if you want to sample some of the thousands of responses to them, just Google “VIDA statistics +feminism.”  I asked some of the women who are contributors and friends to this site to write about a book (by a woman) that they think deserves more attention. The results are below, and I hope you enjoy them as much as I did."

My pick was Chris Kraus' I Love Dick.

This Recording is one of the best websites on the internet, so I was very flattered when I was asked to contribute three novels to their list of The Greatest Novels of All Time.  Check out my recommendations and others from a fine group of young writers and artists.

I reviewed Tea Obreht's debut novel, The Tiger's Wife, for NPR. You may remember Obreht from The New Yorker's 25 top fiction writers under 40. Unfortunately a Google search for the novel's title will return about a million photos of Elin Nordegren, as I've just discovered.
